PREVIOUS PROJECTS

Administrative Simplification

The Washington Healthcare Forum steering committee identified specific projects that met the following criteria:

  1. Reduce staff costs to refer, authorize, bill, and process claims;
  2. Decrease turnaround time between claims submissions and payment;
  3. Improve the patient experience.

In 2008, the Forum created the WorkSmart Institute and asked OneHealthPort to manage initiatives going forward.

HIPAA Policies & Guidelines

Participating health plans have been working together to reach a common understanding and to agree upon conventions about how the HIPAA transactions will be implemented. Companion Documents have been designed to help providers in their efforts to:

  1. Become familiar with the HIPAA transaction and how that transaction will be processed by participating health plans.
  2. Develop software to implement & exchange the HIPAA transaction with participating health plans.
  3. Develop specification materials for their vendor(s) who will implement the transaction.
  4. Resolve possible issues that might arise in the process of exchanging the transaction with participating health plan.

In 2008, the Forum created the WorkSmart Institute and asked OneHealthPort to manage initiatives going forward.

Quality Measures

The Washington Healthcare Forum (the Forum) is a coalition of health plans, physicians, hospitals, and purchasers that has been working to improve the health care system. Our mission is two-fold: to streamline and simplify the financing and delivery system and to advance a public dialogue on sustainable solutions to the various challenges the health care system faces.

Patient Safety

The Washington Healthcare Forum began studying the issue of patient safety and medical liability reform in 2004. Our goal was to develop a system that both promotes patient safety and reduces preventable errors and injuries. To accomplish these goals, we created a Patient Safety and Medical Liability Reform subcommittee, which commissioned two national experts to help us develop our approach. The resulting paper subsequently was reviewed by other national experts in the field.
